Learning Objectives: Course Objectives; 1. To think creatively, analytically and critically. 2. To advance skills in reading, writing. speaking, and listening. 3. To enhance knowledge and understanding of other cultures. 4. To develop an understanding of the dramatic art, music, literature, and history of world cultures. 5. To increase an understanding of the total human experience through the theatre. 6. To develop a sensitivity and interest in the customs, institutions and contributions of different peoples and cultures. Student Learning Outcomes: upon completion of this course, the student should be able to ; 1. Intelligently discuss the origins and development of drama, citing major Historical influences on each dramatic period’s occurrence and progression 2. Identify distinguishing traits of selected dramatic styles. 3. Analyze a play in terms of Aristotle’s six elements of drama. 4. Execute the role of each theatre practitioner and understand the overall production process and the collaborative effort for unity
Required Materials: Course Text: Theater : The Lively Art- Edwin Wilson and Alvin Goldfarb, Seventh Edition New York, NY McGraw Hill, Inc. ISBN-13: 978-0-07-351411-6
Technical Requirements: Course Description: A survey of types of drama, major periods of drama, culturally diverse drama, and of how theatre is produced and staged to develop appreciation and critical standards for theatre through studying, viewing and listening *Special Requirements: You are required to attend two productions this semester. Everyone will be expected to write a critical evaluation of each production. Eagle Pride Dates October 23 @ 2pm October 26+27 @ 8pm and Soul Gone Home Dates November 4,5,6 @ 8pm. It is your responsibility to purchase a ticket. Keep the ticket and the program and turn it in with the critique.
