Learning Objectives: • Describe the historical perspective in biology. • Evaluate the methods and philosophy of science. • Describe the chemical and physical basis for life. • Identify the structure and functions of biological molecules • Describe the structure and function of cells • Describe the structure and function of genes and chromosomes • Evaluate the patterns of inheritance • Use the metric system in mathematical problems • Calculate concentrations and make up solutions • Determine the pH of solutions • Demonstrate proper use and care for the following instruments: light microscope, pH meter, spectrophotometer, and electrophoresis apparatus • Evaluate biological processes in action: functions of biomolecules, photosynthesis, enzyme-substrate reactions, cell division, and inheritance. • Effectively communicate both orally and in writing. • Collect, compile, organize, analyze experimental data. • Construct solutions to biological problems.
