Levels: Undergraduate, Undergraduate Second Degree, Undergraduate Third Degree, Licensure Only, Undergraduate Distance Learning Campus Lecture Schedule Type Web-Based Instructional Method Learning Objectives: Composing, Arranging & Songwriting within a Global Network MUSL 1300 OL CRN 42818 a GEC course (Twentieth Century Music) Can be used for one of two Arts & Humanities GEC credit requirements This is a collaborative online international learning course (COIL) with international partners, University of Pretoria, South Africa & Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus, and Aalborg Denmark. Become a part of this groundbreaking course as you interact and learn with our international partners in South Africa and Denmark for a virtual study abroad experience of a globally linked classroom. This course has a particular emphasis on cultural exchange and global citizenship. Students will use teleconference class time with international students. This course provides students the opportunity to co-compose instrumental and vocal music, arrange for various small and large instrumental and vocal ensembles and, write lyrics with musicians from Denmark, Finland, Brazil and South Africa and other international universities. Students will learn composition, arranging and songwriting devices and techniques from a talented international faculty for a virtual study abroad experience. The core of the course is designed for online delivery, with designated course-related activities occurring in online classroom settings or on live and virtual performance stages. The class meets online weekly at a designated time or for special events, (e.g., online concerts, workshops) to interact with international students from our partner institutions. Designated course-related activities include master classes, workshops, performance combos and concerts. Student will utilize various technological venues (Internet, Blackboard, Zoom, Google Meet, Google Docs,, YouTube, Teleconferencing, Social Media, New Media (content on digital devices), Podcasts and Email) facilitating access to course content and activities. Students will also use songwriting and notation software including Finale and Sibelius. Some aspects of the course will focus on music production for the purpose of completing projects with international partners. Students do not have to be music majors. Required Text: None. Course material to be specified by instructors. Required Materials: NO textbook required. INSTRUCTOR WILL PROVIDE ACCESS TO COURSE MATERIALS Technical Requirements: Access to a computer, internet, Google + account and Gmail account.
